We have all been through it- a breakup with someone who we thought we would be spending the rest of our life with, from some one who we weren't just dating anymore, but had a long and meaningful relationship with. Breakups like these can come as a quite a blow, not to mention a shock. Sometimes we least expect it and it hits us like freight train, other times we bear witness to a slow and agonizing decrease in the quality of the relationship until we finally break it off. Either way it can be devastating and afterwards many of us do not know what to do with ourselves. To begin dating again is out of the question for most people right after the event, but we are lonely. angry, confused.

Waiting on dating

After a difficult breakup most of us just need some time before we can go back to doing some of the things that we did before. But, it is not a good idea to extend this time any farther than it needs to be. Sure you might feel better after a few days crying alone, deep under those comforting covers in the bed, but we cannot go on like that for long before it will start eating away at us and making the whole situation worse. Take the time you need to be by yourself, no one expects you to be dating right away. But, do make an effort to socialize with others. Some of your friends are probably dating or in a relationship and if you think that this will bother you too much to be around them after your relationship has just ended, then seek out those who are unattached.

Even if you have not had contact with some of your single friends for a while, seek them out. It can be very comforting to be around people who are in the same boat as you right now. And single friends have the wonderful ability to actually show you the upside to being single. You don't have to hear about their boyfriend, but maybe they can tell you about their own unsuccessful ( or successful) adventures they have had of late in dating. Don't sink into total isolation or deep depression, combat it before it gets the best of you.
