Psychics, fortune tellers, tarot card readers. They all predict the future, right? Well...not exactly. Tarot cards are a little different.

How Tarot Cards are Different

A psychic or a fortune teller can fortell the future. But a tarot card reader takes a deck of tarot cards and reads them. The way the cards fall can indicate different things about your life. They are meant to give you a little introspection when it comes to problem solving, self-improvement and general understanding.

A standard deck of tarot cards has 22 cards called the major arcana. These are like the trumps of the deck. There are also four suits of 14 other tarot cards called the minor arcana. (These are sometimes referred to as pip cards.) You might notice that different decks have different artwork, just like playing cards. But even the artists interpret the symbols of the tarot in different ways. You can incorporate many different themes into tarot cards. There's a deck for every hobby or interest.

The meaning of each tarot card is very complex. The direction of the card and where it falls in the deck can change the meaning. In fact, many people believe the death card means you or someone you know will die. But the death card can also mean you're reaching the end of something in your life. It could mean you're ending a bad relationship, graduating from college, quitting a job...whatever. It's the end of an era in your life. So as you can see, the death card isn't meant to be taken literally. But you have to think about what might be coming to an end. The cards won't come right out and tell you!
